Grand Canyon Milky Way

Panoramic stitch of several vertical shots over the Grand Canyon at Toroweap. I combined two separate exposures for this- one for the sky and a much longer one to bring out detail in the canyon.I'm going to be in China for the next 3 weeks, so I won't be able to post to 500px. Sunrise at Toroweap

Toroweap is one of my favorite views of the Grand Canyon. Since it's difficult to get here, solitude can often reign supreme. This morning, I was the only one on the rim of the canyon!

Grand View of the Colorado

I love the Toroweap Overlook of the Grand Canyon. You almost always have it to yourself and it's quite an impressive view 3000ft straight down to the Colorado River!

North Rim Fog

It's not often you get to see the Grand Canyon looking like this! It rained like crazy for a couple days while I was there but there were enough breaks in the storm to get some shots in. I have lots of great landscape shots of fog and light in the canyon I'll share in the coming weeks.

Cape Final

This is Cape Final on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon right after a heavy rainstorm. The rain cleared out all the haze and created these heat water pockets that added to the foreground interest.

Breaking Storm

It's amazing how quickly a storm can break up in the Grand Canyon. When I started hiking out to Cape Final, it was pouring rain and had been raining for a couple days. When I got to the rim, it was completely obscured by clouds. Suddenly, the rain stopped and the sun started poking through. It took less than 30 mins for all the clouds to clear out and blue skies to appear. I took this shot as the clouds began racing out of the canyon.

North Rim Sunset

This is my friend Sarah AlSayegh photographing a great sunset on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. There's a funny story I have to share on this one. When we first arrived at this spot, there was a girl sitting off to the side jabbering away on her cell phone. I was surprised she even got cell phone reception there. We walked out to the point and started setting up. Then inexplicably, the girl came and sat down right in front of our tripods, still jabbering away on her phone. We thought that was odd and had to adjust our compositions to keep her out of it. When she was done talking, she turned to us and said what we had done was the rudest thing she'd ever seen. She said her sister was a professional photographer (I don't know why that had anything to do with the conversation). And then she hoped that we wouldn't get a single good photograph on our entire trip. Sarah was great, and just responded with a happy "thank you!" The girl left in a huff and we were rewarded with this great sunset.
